Synopsis

Pignatius's greed is about to get him into a right royal adventure!
Pignatius was passing the palace one day, when he saw ten fresh buns left to cool on a tray... Sneaking into the palace, looking for more treats, Pignatius tries on a wig and some clothes and the servants mistake him for the real prince! Of course the rein of this porky impostor can't last long, but when the actual prince returns, he saves Pignatius's bacon. It turns out that he's always wanted a double to deal with a particularly frightening dragon... his Aunt Alice!

About the Author

PETER BENTLY was born in Tidworth and attended Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied for a BA Hons in Modern Languages. He has two young children and now lives in Devon. He has also written several other award-winning picture books, including A Lark in the Ark (Egmont) and Shark in the Dark (Macmillan).

DAVID ROBERTS is an award-winning illustrator who has earned great acclaim for his distinctive style. He was born in Liverpool and studied fashion design at university in Manchester. After graduating, he worked as a milliner and a fashion illustrator, but always felt his true calling was in children's books. David finally realised his dream when his first book was published in 1998, and since then he has collaborated with some of Britain's finest children's authors, including Julia Donaldson, Sally Gardner, Philip Ardagh and Jacqueline Wilson. He is also the creator of the popularDirty Bertie books. He lives in London with his partner. His book Little Red was shortlisted for the 2005 Kate Greenaway Medal. In 2006 he won the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Gold Award for his line drawings in Mouse Noses on Toast.

From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2—A picture book play on The Prince and the Pauper. Bently's story, told in tongue-tickling rhyme, follows Pignatius, a pig, as he goes about achieving his goal of having some delicious snacks. In the palace, the porker's resemblance to the royal allows him to impersonate the prince and feast on endless desserts. Inset, framed illustrations; scrollwork; and battalions of soldiers add plenty of fun visual details. Pignatius fares well after he's discovered by the prince. (One might even suspect that the prince knew all along.) Deciding that a double could come in handy when unpleasant Aunt Alice comes to visit, the prince permits Pignatius to remain at the palace and continue his feasting. VERDICT This tale will appeal to both younger and older picture book readers and fans of seriously silly titles such as Jon Scieszka's The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.—Paige Mellinger, Gwinnett County Public Library, Lawrenceville, GA
