Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 is Microsoft's solution to identity management. When fully installed, the product utilizes SQL, SharePoint, IIS, web services, the .NET Framework, and SCSM to name a few, allowing it to be customized to meet nearly every business requirement.

The book is divided into 15 chapters and begins with an overview of the product, what it does, and what it does not do. To better understand the concepts in MIM, we introduce a fictitious company and their problems and goals, then build an identity solutions to fit those goals. Over the course of this book, we cover topics such as MIM installation and configuration, user and group management options, self-service solutions, role-based access control, reducing security threats, and finally operational troubleshooting and best practices.

By the end of this book, you will have gained the necessary skills to deploy, manage and operate Microsoft Identity Manager 2016 to meet your business requirements and solve real-world customer problems.

About the Author

David Steadman has been navigating the IT industry to over 17 years. Starting in network administration, David continued to expand his skills, working for a number of consulting firms and eventually growing into an architect role. Then he joined Microsoft as a Premier Field Engineer, focusing on Identity and Access Management. David has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, focused on Information Technology. Today, David is a Senior Escalation Engineer at Microsoft support product group escalations and support of global customers around identity Management. In his free time, he loves to coach soccer and have family time. Also he makes a mad pulled pork and loves to cook with his smoker. Jeff Ingalls is a husband, father, and cancer-surviving dyslexic who loves a good glass of chocolate milk. He currently works out of his Ohio home office in identity and access management. Jeff has been working with Microsoft technologies for over 20 years and with the Microsoft identity software since its conception in 2003. He has provided solutions to various private and public sectors including automotive, DoD, education, health and services, small business, and state and local government. He enjoys teaching and has taught identity management to companies in multiple continents and more times zones than he knew existed. Jeff has a graduate degree in Information Technology and an undergraduate degree in mathematics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, and reading non-fiction.
