About the Author:
Anita Ganeri is an award-winning author of information books for children. Educated at Cambridge University, she has written more than 300 books, including the best-selling 'Horrible Geography' series (Scholastic Children's Books) which won a 2009 Blue Peter Book Award. She writes widely on animals and the natural world. A recent title for Raintree, A Day in the Life of Rainforest Animals: Capybara, has been shortlisted for a Maryland Blue Crab Award 2012. Anita lives in the north of England with her husband, children and assorted pets.

Grade 4-7. An attractive and useful title. As she did in Hinduism (Peter Bedrick, 1996), Ganeri utilizes a double-page topic treatment to answer some basic questions about the religion's principles and practices. In response to such inquiries as "What did the Buddha teach?" and "How do Buddhists Worship?" she presents a survey of Buddhist history, beliefs, sacred texts, festivals, and life-cycle events. As in other titles in the series, there is discussion of the art and folk literature associated with the religious tradition. Colorful photographs, illustrations, and art reproductions appear throughout.
