Enid Blyton was born on London in 1897. Her childhood was spent in Beckenham, Kent and as a child she began to write poems, stories and plays. She trained as a teacher, but devoted most of her life to writing for children. Her first book was a collection of poems, published in 1922. In 1926 she began to write a weekly magazine for children called Sunny Stories, and it was here that many of her most popular stories and characters first appeared. She wrote more than 700 books for children, many of which have been translated into over 30 languages.
