Murphy on Evidence first appeared in 1980 under the name A Practical Approach to Evidenceand its success in providing a readable and practical guide to the subject has been widely acknowledged not only by law teachers and students, but also by the profession. This seventh edition deals with the many significant changes which have taken place since publication of the last edition. It deals with all the statutory changes, including those to be introduced by the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999. As the Human Rights Act 1998 comes into effect, full coverage of is provided of the relevant provisions of that Act and the European Convention on Human Rights, and the decisions of English courts and the European Court of Human Rights which affect the law of evidence. The impact of the Civil Procedure Rules 1998 is also dealt with. Important decisions of the House of Lords and Court of Appeal have been noted and analysed and the text has been updated and revised throughout. As in previous editions, the authors teaching method is centred around a realistic, though fictitious criminal case and civil case, which provide teachers and students alike with a searching method of testing their understanding of the law.

About the Author

Peter Murphy read law at Cambridge. He is a member of the Bars of England, California and Texas, and is a Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law. He was formerly a Principal Lecturer at the Inns of Court School of Law. He has taught and practised at the Bar extensively both in England and the United States. He is the editor-in-chief of Blackstones Criminal Practice and the co-author of Evidence and Advocacy and Cases and Materials on Evidence. His books constitute a complete and proven method for the teaching of evidence.
