About the Author:
Emma Carlow lives in London with her husband, Graham, and their baby Finn. When Emma isn't thinking up book ideas, she designs T-shirts for babies. Trevor Dickinson lives in Newcastle, Australia, with the lovely Jo, Ella, Lucy, Tiki and Scrabble. He too designs T-shirts for children and sometimes for grown-ups. Trevor likes his hammock and may soon own a dog. Trevor and Emma met in London while they were creating children's T-shirt and textile designs for a big store. They both liked children's books so much that they decided to make one of their own. They did all the writing and illustrating together, even though they now live over 10,000 miles apart. Emma and Trevor spend most of their time talking on the phone or emailing pictures to each other - they still feel like they live in the same city.
From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Fairy Godmouse narrates this tale about manners. Kitty Princess is so rude and exacting that her godmouse tells her to get her own gown for the ball. Never having shopped before, Kitty demands shoes from a fruit stand, jewelry from a cafe, and a dress from a newsstand. The results are watermelon, carrot, and tomato slippers; accessories made from food; and a newspaper frock. When the arrogant princess arrives at the ball looking just plain silly, she is denied entry. After she apologizes to her godmouse and to the shopkeepers, her tacky ensemble is changed into a beautiful outfit and she is escorted into the ball. Inside, the prince is so rude that Fairy Godmouse teaches him a lesson, too. Full-color collage artwork, made from paper, cloth, crayons, lace, and other media, fills each spread. The animal characters are clothed in Japanese costumes. Large, bold type is used when Kitty gives her orders. Fairy Godmouse is partially hidden in most pictures, and detail-oriented youngsters will enjoy trying to find her. Pair this title with Audrey Wood's Rude Giants (Harcourt, 1993) when the time to discuss proper behavior arises.
