In autumn 1857, Charles Dickens embarked on a sightseeing trip to Cumberland with his friend, the rising star of literature Wilkie Collins. About the Author
Wilkie Collins (1824–1889) was an English novelist, playwright, and short story writer. He is best known for his "sensation novels," the forerunners of modern detective fictions, which won him great popularity when they were published in his friend Charles Dickens's publication All The Year Round. Charles Dickens is considered one of the English language's greatest writers. His works include The Adventures of Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, and A Tale of Two Cities.
