About the Author

Andrew Charman is an experienced journalist and lifelong railway enthusiast with an extensive knowledge of the steam locomotive scene, and he is in the process of taking the training course that will eventually see him become a qualified driver on a heritage steam railway -- currently he is a trainee fireman on the narrow-gauge Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway in mid-Wales. As well as his own extensive knowledge of steam locomotives and their operation, he has direct access to all necessary professional assistance, including around a dozen former British Railways locomen.
