Investigations into the "accidental" deaths of two of the world's most powerful men have revealed just one link: both had a son attending Point Blanc Academy, a school for rebellious rich kids run by the sinister Dr Grief and set high in the French Alps. Armed with a new collection of gadgets, Alex must infiltrate the academy as a pupil and establish the truth about what is really happening there...Featuring full-colour, action-packed, Manga-style art, this graphic novel is ideal for encouraging reluctant readers.

Anthony Horowitz is an award-winning children's author, writer for television and creator of the phenomenal Alex Rider series. He lives in central London. Antony Johnston has adapted many prose works into comic form and is the author of several graphic novels. He lives in north-west England. Kanako and Yuzuru, two sisters from Japan, collaborate to produce Manga-style art for comics and graphic novels. Yuzuru is an illustrator and lives in Tokyo; Kanako is a graphic designer and lives in London.
As in Stormbreaker: The Graphic Novel (2006), rapid-fire action, appealing manga-style artwork, and a heavy reliance on the James Bond formula drive this second graphic adaptation of Horowitz’s best-selling Alex Rider books. The plot maintains the basic premise of the eponymous novel, published in 2002: Rider, a 14-year-old British spy, is sent to a mysterious Swiss boarding school to investigate the nefarious plot of its headmaster. With clear lines and carefully toned coloring, the art makes the most of the creepy castle setting, twisting passages, gadgets, and death-defying snowboard escapes, while the mix of perspectives and panel sizes helps to reveal clues in quick succession. Suspense builds right up until the terrifying conclusion, which, because it involves body doubles, has high impact in this visual format, which showcases the mirror effects. A sure hit with both fans and newcomers, particularly reluctant readers. Grades 6-9. --Gillian Engberg
