About the Author:
Megan McDonald grew up in Pennsylvania, USA, the youngest of five girls. All her family were great story-tellers, and she claims she couldn't get a word in edgeways, so she began to write her stories down instead. Megan received a BA in Children's Literature and worked in bookstores, libraries and schools before becoming a full-time writer. She lives in California with her husband, Richard. G. Brian Karas has illustrated over 65 books for children. He is often inspired by his surroundings, and has used many different locations as his art studio: from a sewing factory turned artist's co-op in Manhattan, to the last house ever designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, to a cabin at a desert mountain lodge in Arizona. He lives in New York.

As they walk to the party, rain turns their boxy costumes to "soggy blobs of wet cardboard," but quick-witted Honey Bee and Ant have an answer for everything, including that pesky "What are you?" query. Childlike and sympathetic, the characters' antics and conversations will have broad appeal. Karas' expressive pencil drawings, colored with gouache and acrylic paints, have a fresh, slightly quirky look that is sure to draw an audience. Most second-graders will be able to read the simple words, but even prereaders will enjoy the gentle, droll humor that infuses both text and illustrations. A pleasing story with series potential.
