Carolyn Forster started making quilts when she was a teenager and went on to study Textiles at the University of Bath. Since graduating, she has taught patchwork and quilting both in the UK and the USA and has had her quilts featured in a number of books and magazines, including Fabrications, Popular Patchwork and Patchwork and Quilting. Carolyn lives in Tunbridge Wells, UK with her husband and son.
July 2015 Carolyn's gorgeous book shows yuo how to transform those jumbled 2.5in jelly roll scraps (which if your like us, you'll have lying around your craft room) into stunning little quilts and patchwork gifts. Packed with 30 colourful and inventive projects, and all the techniques needed to create them, this book contains an abundance of advice and inspiration for quilters and patchworkers of all levels. We love a bit of thrifty thinking! * Make it Today * Jan 14 In the Twenty To Make Series, this book features quick and easy projects to use jelly roll scraps and mini charms. There is a one page tips and techniques section and two pages of templates to enlarge. The remainder of the book shows the 20 projects. Each project is shown over two pages. The description and techniques are clear and there is a superb photo of every project. Make hanging fish, a patchwork dog, drawstring bag, pin cushion, tissue pouch and other useful items. An excellent little book. * Karen Platt Yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts * Apr 14 Compact and yet perfectly formed, this latest title by Carolyn Forster has some super-cute projects for using up your scraps. A perfect companion to her recent Sew Jelly Roll Quilts and Gifts title, it's an excellent little A5-sized book for starters in patchwork, quilting and stitching, and for scrap-friendly mini-projects if you hate waste. It may only be 48 pages long but the projects are packed in - twenty of them in total. The templates are near the beginning of the book but sadly, due to the size of the book, are not produced at 100%, so make sure you have access to a print shop or enlarging photocopier. The projects are simple but useful little objects, and are confined to one page of instructions and one beautifully styled photograph to make the most of the space. I love the Russian Dolls, the Patchwork Dog, the Hanging Fish and the Plastic Bag Dispenser. This is great-value by anyone's standards and is perfect if your time and/or experience are limited. * Popular Patchwork * Feb 14 This book is from their series of '20 to make' and is very well priced at GBP4.99 - that's pretty much the same price as buying a magazine at the moment. A 'jelly roll' is the name given to a roll of pre-cut strips of fabric designed by Moda, an American fabric manufacturer which I hadn't heard before, but any strips of fabric remnants will do perfectly well for any of these tasks. It's an excellent idea for using up those scraps of fabric we all hold on to - just in case! Inside there are tons of ideas, here are just a few of them: Patchwork dog Tissue Pouch Mini Bunting Tabby Cat Cushion Thread Pot Needle Book The instructions are clear and concise and the photographs are set out so you can see both the finished project, and a close-up of some of the detail. I think this book would make a great gift, or project book as I think most people would want to make most, if not all, of the things in here, which unfortunately is not always the case with some craft books. http://craftingnotcleaning.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/jelly-roll-scraps.html * craftingnotcleaning.blogspot.co.uk * Jan/Feb 14 Quilters and patchworkers are familiar with jelly rolls - bundles of coordinating fabrics manufactured by Moda, pre-cut into useful 21/2inch (6.5cm) strips. But what should be done with all those leftover pieces from making a patchwork quilt? Instead of throwing them away, this book presents 20 projects which show the sewer how to create cushions, bags and handy pincushions using simple sewing, quilting and patchwork techniques. Leftover scraps of fabric can be used instead of jelly rolls. Fabric can be cut to size and used in the same way. All the templates are provided as well as some basic tips and techniques, and each project is accompanied by a list of materials and tools needed, as well as clear step-by-step instructions. * Craft Business * May 2016 This book has been around for a couple of years but we still throughly recommend it. It contains 20 excellent ideas for using up all your scraps of fabric as well as Jelly Roll scraps and Mini Charm packs. All the projects are designed to be easy to stitch and fun to work on, using basic sewing and patchwork and quilting techniques. A great little book for transforming those scraps you might otherwise have discarded into something beautiful for a gift or for your home. Projects include bags, pincushions, placemats, hair accessories and fabric pots plus much more. * Love to Make *
