Having grown up in the royal household during the reign of Queen Victoria, servant Charles Oliver was to remain with the royal family for more than 60 years. A familiar face at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Balmoral, he became an authority on the eating habits of three generations of royalty. He was particularly fascinated by the imperial kitchens and kept notes on every detail. He began to save royal menus and recipes, and eventually he amassed a considerable collection. He also lovingly hoarded anecdotes, souvenirs, photos, and details on royal tastes and entertaining. About the Author

Charles Oliver grew up in the royal household during the reign of Queen Victoria. After Victoria's death, he endeared himself to George V and Queen Mary. Even when he retired, he remained very close to the palace and the entourage of Elizabeth II. It was Charles Oliver's wish that the wealth of material he had gathered over the years should be compiled into what he described as 'a cookbook with a difference'. He made one stipulation - that it should not be published until after his death. This is that book.
