About the Author

Colin Garratt, a world-renowned authority and author on locomotives, has also been a professional railway photographer for more than 30 years. His principal work has been to document the last steam locomotives of the world and he has made expeditions to some 50 countries, embracing all continents. He is director of Milepost 921/2, the multi-media production company for the railway industry. He has written and illustrated over 40 books on steam and rail.
