Synopsis
It’s bedtime on the Ark. The boat is finished, the animals are on board, and everyone is ready for a good night’s rest. But how is a little boy to sleep in a huge boat that rocks and sways as the floodwaters rise? Soon, rolling thunder and crashing lightning force Eber out of his warm bed, down the dark hall, and into Grandpa Noah and Grandma Nora’s bed. As they all snuggle down, Grandma and Grandpa realize Eber’s hair is awfully tickly, and aren’t his toenails a little . . . long? Could it be that Eber isn’t the only one afraid of the storm? Enchanting, colorful illustrations enhance this lively retelling of the Ark tale.

About the Author
Jim Coplestone is an artist, illustrator and sculptor who has illustrated many acclaimed children's picture books. His first collaboration with Laurence Anholt was Seven for a Secret, praised for its sensitive treatment of the relationship with a grandparent, and bereavement. Since then he has illustrated Animals Aboard and The No-No Bird with Andrew Fusek Peters, and A Walk in the Wild Woods with Lis Jones. He lives in Charmouth, Devon.

PreSchool-Grade 2–With the ark finished and the animals loaded, Grandpa Noah and Grandma Nora are ready for a good night's rest. However, Noah promises his young grandson that he can join them in bed if the storm frightens him. Lightning and thunder wake some animals as well as Eber, who creeps through the dark to his grandparents' room. Before long, Noah and Nora are wondering why the boy's toenails are so scratchy and his hair so tickly. Children will recognize the claws, feathers, and other parts of the creatures that sneak under the quilts and disturb the adults' rest. When Noah finally lights the lamp, he finds Eber sleeping peacefully in their bed along with numerous animals. The colorful cartoon illustrations reinforce the story's light tone and are large enough for group sharing.
