Synopsis
Many people are aware that they drink too much for their health and well-being but find it very difficult to cut back on alcohol. Drinking to help you feel relaxed in social situations or to unwind after a stressful day are common self-help strategies, but for growing numbers of people drinking excessively on a regular basis leads to very real health, work and relationship problems. In this book, former alcohol counsellor, Marcantonio Spada provides strategies for dealing with excessive drinking based on cognitive behavioral therapy. Clinical studies have shown that CBT significantly reduces heavy drinking patterns and that these gains were maintained after 12 months. CBT can help people develop skills to better manage their behaviour in situations where they drink heavily - for example in social situations, when stressed, or when facing problems and anxieties. CBT also helps people manage cravings for alcohol.

About the Author
Marcantonio Spada is Professor of Psychology and Head of the Division of Psychology at London South Bank University. An expert in cognitive behavioural therapy for alcohol misuse, he has worked as a clinician for the last twenty years and is the author of over 100 scientific articles, two books and several book chapters in the field of addictive behaviours. Marcantonio is a chartered psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and an accredited cognitive behavioural therapy practitioner with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
