COSMOS AN ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO OUR SOLAR SYSTEM AND THE UNIVERSE Edwin Hubble is fairly regarded as the founder of modern cosmology. Perhaps his most dramatic discovery was the existence of galaxies beyond the Milky Way, which laid the groundwork for understanding the Big Bang and the origins of he Universe. here, spectacular colour images, primarily from the Hubble Space Telescope, but also from other space-and ground-based telescopes and detectors, trace the history of time through space, beginning with distant quasars and zooming in through swirling galaxies and nebulas before arriving home in our own solar system. A detailed description of what was discovered in each case and its importance accompanies each photograph while an introductory section examines the many discoveries of the pat hundred-odd years.
