Synopsis

Boston's own dog, set down in 1926 by a breeder who could trace every winner in the ring back to its foundation stock.

E. J. Rousuck wrote The Boston Terrier at the height of the breed's fashion, and he wrote it as an insider. Here are the head and body points as the judges of the day read them, the rearing and feeding of youngsters, the ailments a novice owner could expect, and a full account of the foundation strains behind the dogs then winning - the line that runs back to a single bull-and-terrier cross bought in Boston around 1870, and forward to the American Kennel Club's recognition of the first dog breed developed in the United States.

A guest chapter by Evan M. Ramsey covers preparing for the show, and R. W. Tauskey's photographs of the great winners of the 1920s are reproduced throughout, making this a primary record of the breed as its earliest enthusiasts knew it.

This edition features:

• The complete 1926 text, from the origins of the breed to the standard by which it was judged
• R. W. Tauskey's photographs of the champions of the 1920s, reproduced from the original edition
• A guest chapter on preparing for the show by Evan M. Ramsey
• A full account of the foundation strains and their relation to the dogs of the day
