This book is a stake in the ground, a marker of where VICE has been, where it is and where it might be going, welcoming back its fans and a whole new slew of readers. What started as a filthy newsprint punk zine has blossomed into a multimedia empire with the highest quality dispatches from the cultural frontline: irreverent commentary, photo-journalism, interviews, commissioned literature, blogs and photography. Forget what you thought you knew about it and immerse yourself in the world of VICE. It might not be easy to swallow and it might not be pretty, but it's never less than real, and always essential.

About the Author

VICE Magazine was founded in Montreal in 1994 and has grown into one of the biggest brands in magazine publishing, with offices in twenty-four cities worldwide. Its unique blend of irreverence, sardonic humour, investigative journalism and photography has carved its own niche in the cultural landscape. More recently it has been a digital pioneer, with the Viceland website and the hugely influential VBS TV which has produced documentaries on Liberia, North Korea, the dance music phenomenon 'donk', HEAVY METAL IN BAGHDAD and most recently SWANSEA LOVE SONG. And if that was not enough, there is also Vice Records.

Review

VICE may have cornered the market on cool in print. * * Wired * * VICE has built a small empire out of a raw, ironic sensibility, risque photographs, and a willingness to deal in taboo subjects. * * New York Times * * Magazines can be very dull and shallow, VICE seems to have turned that on its head somehow. -- Dame Vivienne Westwood Most magazines are driven by a desire to make money by putting celebrities in them. But VICE looks like it'shere because it wants to be. -- Ian Hislop Make way for the new honesty. * * Observer * * A work of genius. * * Arena * * VICE reads like Eminem, only angrier. * * Independent on Sunday * * Reaffirms that you're not alone in this warped world after all. * * Maxim * * It's almost impossible to flick through the Dos and Don's without sniggering... at the withering captions which accompany the shots of street fashion gone right or in most cases wrong * * Cooler * *
