From Booklist:
Gittins’ first novel opens with a terrible crime: a young girl watches as her sister is gunned down, seeing the culprit with the weapon in hand. Meanwhile, a witness-protection officer named Ros has her hands full with a young woman who refuses to obey her instructions. The plotlines merge as the novel progresses, and moral lines begin to blur, too. The narrative manipulates the reader, heightening the drama but also causing undo confusion. While Ros is a somewhat intriguing character, the others are more shadow than substance. There is much that is intriguing about this UK import, but overall the novel, while promising, just misses the mark. --Jeff Ayers
