9781847972910: Scale Car Modelling

Synopsis

Cars have always appealed as model subjects as - unlike airplanes or military subjects - the real thing is likely to be sitting outside the modeler's house.  From the first car kits produced in the early 1950s, mainly dominated by American machinery, we now have a choice of automotive examples from around the world.  The joint scale of 1:24/1:25 dominates car models, and it is these scales that will mostly be found in this book, from stock builds to race cars to wild customs.

About the Authors

Mat Irvine is probably best-known for his work as a Technical Consultant and Visual Effects Designer who worked on television, primarily for the BBC, from the 1970s to the 1990s.  As a Technical Consultant, Irvine worked on shows such as The Sky at NightTomorrow's World and the original series of Robot Wars. As a Visual Effects Designer, Irvine worked on shows such as Rentaghost, Terry and JuneBlake's 7The TripodsEdge of Darkness and To the Manor Born.  He is perhaps best known for his work on Doctor Who, for which he was a Visual Effects Designer, from the 1970s to the 1980s. He is credited with building the first K-9 prop for the program.  Nowadays, he makes appearances at sci-fi and Doctor Who conventions, often alongside K-9, which he still operates. He also organizes and runs regular models shows.

Mat Irvine has built models for many years, both professionally and as a hobby. Although he is maybe better known for his spacecraft modelling, especially as part of his work as a special effects designer for television, the car modelling side has also played an important part of his interests.
