Time on the Ocean is an exciting account of a sailing adventure from Punto Arenas in Chile around Cape Horn, on to the Malvinas/Falklands and, via Tristan da Cunha, to landfall in Cape Town, South Africa. Underscoring the narrative is the story of author Theo Dorgan's great-grandmother, who died in childbirth off Cape Horn and was buried at sea. As one would expect from Dorgan - poet, editor, translator, librettist, and broadcaster - this is a poetic and evocative account. Time on the Ocean will appeal not only to sailing enthusiasts and those interested in the adventure aspect of the story, but to those who love an inspirational story, beautifully told.

Theo Dorgan was born in Cork but has made his home in Dublin for many years. Poet, editor, broadcaster, translator and prose writer, he has also written scripts for film documentaries and worked as a presenter of literature programmes on radio and television for over twenty-five years. He is the 2010 recipient of the Lawrence O'Shaughnessy Prize for Irish Poetry (USA). Formerly Director of Poetry Ireland/Aeigse Aeireann and a member of The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaion, Theo Dorgan is a member of Aosdana.
Dorgan is, of course, a remarkably prose stylist, and the humor and poignancy of this book are offset by the white-knuckle adventures that constantly erupt. In between we discover meditations on family, time, friendship, danger and of course mortality. Some poets keep a sword upstairs, and Dorgan is one of them. --Irish Voice
