Born in Oxford, raised in Durham and now living in London, Clare Bayley worked as a theatre critic before doing David Edgar’s MA in playwriting at Birmingham University. Her first play, Northern Lights, was directed by Shabnam Shabazi at the New Grove Theatre. Her 2007 play The Container won a Fringe First and the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award. Since then her plays have been produced at theatres including the Young Vic, Hampstead Theatre, the National Theatre, and internationally. They are published by Nick Hern Books.
For radio Clare has written for BBC Radio 4’s Afternoon Drama, Fifteen Minute Drama, and for BBC Radio Scotland. She is co-author of Playwriting: A Writers’ and Artists’ Companion, published by Bloomsbury.
