Engaging groups in drama is a highly effective way to break down barriers and build resilient teams. This concise book of drama-based exercises using the principles and techniques of the Theater of the Oppressed will be an invaluable tool for practitioners looking to facilitate conflict transformation and is applicable to a wide range of contexts and client groups. The dramatic problem solving approach is a sequential process, from welcoming exercises and forming agreements, to analysing the root problems and building on trust, culminating in the creation of a piece of drama. Each stage is accompanied by activities and illustrated with examples from the author's extensive experience in group facilitation and the uses of theatre of the oppressed.

This book will be an innovative resource for any professionals involved in groupwork including youthworkers, teachers, social workers, arts and family therapists, group psychotherapists, psychologists, school counsellors and community leaders.

Book Description:

Drama-based exercises for practitioners looking to facilitate conflict transformation in a range of contexts and for a range of client groups

From the Author:

This handbook comes out of my doctoral work where I combined the dynamic work of Augusto Boal and the Theater of the Oppressed with the academic approach of conflict analysis and resolution to create a series of exercises that can help groups examine and change their conflicts and circumstances. It was written as a guide to help people like me who wanted to do the exciting and important work of TO while creating immediate, concrete actions for change in our communities.
