The main purpose of this book is to provide an introduction to the design of modern enterprise networks for voice, data, and image and video applications using an internationally known, classroom-tested user-friendly software package, EcoNets. To achieve that purpose, a balanced discussion of the theory and a proven network design methodology based on EcoNets is provided for all types of modern networks.

Now, here is a comprehensive, hands-on guide to EcoNets, a versatile software development tool for all enterprise network designers. The author clearly guides you through everything you need to know and do - to build a cost-effective network of any kind for any enterprise.
One can now apply proven methodologies to design, model and implement all types of practical networks quickly and economically, using integrated broadband technologies that support voice, data, image, and video applications with equal facility. One will also get actual hands-on design procedures for automatic call distribution (ACD), common channel signaling (CCS), personal communication systems (PCS) and other enterprise-essential systems.
One can now master network theory without the mathematical complexity as you go directly to modeling a variety of topologies for optimum cost effectiveness.
One can now answer tough questions about any networking system with practical guidance and clearly-explained concepts, reinforced by numerous examples and exercises - all of which are stored as text files on the accompanying diskette, which also includes a network design application software, EcoNets.
This book represents a major revision of Network Topology Optimization - The Art and Science of Network Design as published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in 1990. Chapter 6 that dealt with the EcoNets software is completely revised to reflect the numerous improvements made as a result of the suggestions made by hundreds of graduate students since 1991. This textbook is presently used for a nationwide course entitled Telecommunications Network Design as offered by Southern Methodist University and National Technological University. The course employs several distance education technologies. Some students take this course in several foreign countries using delayed videotapes. Several foreign universities also provide similar courses based on this textbook and/or the 1990 textbook also written by the Author. The new textbook comes with a diskette containing the educational version and all the supporting files described in the textbook. Therefore, the textbook is immediately useful for hands-on training at one's own pace.
