About the Author

Ron Scholes has much experience of long-distance walking as well as fell walking, including walking solo from Cape Wrath to Land's End using his own route. He is a retired Headteacher, and a former longserving leader for Youth Hotels Association Walking Tours at home and abroad. He has been a regular contributor to countryside programmes for BBC local radio, and to the Yorkshire Journal and Outdoor Pursuits magazine. Ron Scholes was a friend of Alfred Wainwright from the early 1970`s, firstly through correspondence, and later as supporter of his favourite charity, Animal Rescue Cumbria. There was common ground of mutual interest, Lakeland, long distance walking, landscapes, maps and books.
