FINE. Decorated gloss boards. This is the exceedingly rare 1993 edition (including the definitive Index Erratum tip-in sheet pp158/159) in almost perfect condition. The book details the scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet by their patriotic officers and remaining crew, during the armistice negotiations working towards the Treaty of Versailles. It was the last heroic act of defiance by the German naval leadership to deprive the British and Allies of this unmatchable war-booty. The German Imperial fleet was far and away the pinnacle of craftsmanship, technical achievement and military engineering of the era. Planned in secrecy and timed to perfection, the British guard-forces on duty at the Orkney Islands portage at the northern tip of Scotland were helpless to prevent this act of resistance which was pivotal to the treaty politics. Again, this is the rare 1993 edition (-not- the 1995 re-reissue). [B149-174]. Seller Inventory # 007909
