About the Author
Professor Suheil Bushrui is internationally recognized as the foremost international authority on Kahlil Gibran. He is currently Director of the University of Maryland Kahlil Gibran Research and Studies Project, where Joe Jenkins is a Research Fellow.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Gibran's The Prophet, one of the most widely read books of the 20th century, and this biography of the poet and philosopher offers both insight into his life and a critical study of his writings. Bushrui, a foremost authority on Gibran, and Jenkins, a research fellow at the University of Maryland, rely on new sources gathered during a ten-year study to capture Gibran's life. Covering Gibran's literary contributions and his personal history, including distressing poverty, the loss of many of his family members while in his twenties, and his ability to open the eyes of ordinary people to the reality of life and beyond, the authors portray Gibran as a solitary person who reconciles Eastern and Western cultures into a universal humanitarianism.
