'The editors (a different editor for each volume) of these two parts provide useful introductions that contextualize the literary output of Oliphant and highlight her career as a biographer, critic, and reviewer. Highly recommended.' CHOICE 'if the initial volumes are representative of the remainder of the project, VPR readers will want to encourage their libraries to purchase these first two parts and to place standing orders for the remainder.' Victorian Periodicals Review 'Gathering history, biography, and literary criticism along with fiction, the editors of this collection show how one extraordinarily prolific writer represented - in all its diversity - the spirit of her age.'
