Synopsis
Work in Regress, Peter Reading's first new collection since the recently published two volume Collected Poems, shows the controversial bard in true, headstrong style, turning against the idea of poetry being worth anything in the modern world, at the same time as he creates angry, heartbreaking, grimly ironic poetry out of blackness and despair.
Work in Regress was shortlisted for the 1997 T. S. Eliot Prize in Britain, and was also a Poetry Book Society Choice.

Just a few years ago, Readings Collected Poems appeared in two massive volumes, spanning 25 years of writing, and demonstrating his remarkable range of styles and his unrelenting vision of an England in decay. Theres nothing beyond Readings ken, and there seems to be no form he wont give a shot, as he continues to do in this little volume that also rubs our faces in the squalor of post-Thatcherism, for these desperate circumstances demand disparate measures.
