Sara Clifford has worked with Leap Theatre Workshop since 1993. She has been a freelance youth arts worker, director and trainer for over ten years, leading drama and writing workshops in various settings including schools, youth clubs, theatres and community venues, both in this country and abroad. She has written, directed and produced several plays on the London fringe, and is currently in receipt of an Arts Council Writer's Commission. She also founded Inroads Productions to develop and produce new writing. Anna Herrmann has been involved with Leap Theatre Workshop since 1991, becoming the Project Manager in 1994. She has considerable experience as an actor/teacher, director, workshop leader and trainer in various settings, both in England and abroad, specialising in using drama and theatre to work with marginalised young people. She has recently completed an MA in Drama and Education at the Central School of Speech and Drama.
This book offers the reader a comprehensive way of devising issue-based theatre with young people. The model is based on a ten-week full-time Leap project which involves three weeks of group work and training, three weeks of devising and rehearsing, and four weeks of touring. The characters are created as group members research the theme and draw on their own experiences. It allows the young people to be in control of the product they create, supported by the faciitators. There is a strong sense of empowerment. Author: Arts Research Digest
