From the Publisher

In this fascinating and enlightening new book, Dr. Andrew G. Hodges conducts an imaginary interview with the most influential person in history, Jesus Christ. A psychologist and a Christian, Dr. Hodges draws on his professional background and a profound knowledge of Scripture to "interview" Jesus on a fascinating variety of the most provocative and challenging topics from his life and teachings.

Why did God allow evil in the first place?

What was it like when you first realized who you really were?

How did your family react when you performed your first miracle?

Why were so many unable to believe in you even then ?

Why did you have to die on the cross?

What really happened at the resurrection?

Jesus' candid answers to these and many other questions give readers added insight and a clearer understanding of His timeless message. From this "first-hand" account of Jesus Christ's remarkable life emerges a truly human portrait of Jesus-both as man and God. Moving and unforgettable, Jesus : An Interview Across Time adds a powerful, surprising new dimension to the greatest story every told.

From the Back Cover

“Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. . . .” Hebrews 5:8 (NIV)

Christians across the centuries have agreed upon three basic truths: Jesus was fully God, he was fully human, and he was one person. But if Jesus was fully human (and he was), how did he experience that humanity? How did he learn  (and as a human he had to learn) that he was the Messiah? What experiences did he have as a child and as a young man? Did he ever doubt? How did he experience shame, guilt, temptation, anger, and love? How could he endure the cross?

These questions and many others are answered in this provocative but plausible “interview” with Jesus. Using clues provided by Old Testament messianic prophecies and the New Testament Gospels, Hodges presents an emotionally powerful and theologically orthodox re-creation of Jesus’ life from birth to resurrection.

“Dr. Hodges has employed a sanctified imagination, rooted in the Gospels, to create a profile of the Word-made-flesh that is wholly reasonable, wholly honoring to the precious doctrine of the Incarnation.”

—D. Bruce Lockerbie, Chairman, PAIDEIA, Inc.

“[Hodges] has sought to combine the insights he has gained from in-depth study of human psychology with a speculative portrait of the human nature of the earthly Jesus. . . . His efforts in this volume are fascinating and profoundly interesting.”

—R. C. Sproul, President, Ligonier Ministries

“A helpful new and fresh look at the incarnation and at some very ancient questions. We won’t use this book as a basis for a new theology, but the one we already have will be enriched, challenged, and deepened.”

—Jay Kesler, Chancellor, Taylor University

Andrew G. Hodges, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist in Birmingham, Ala., and has been in private practice for twenty-five years. Previously he was an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and has been a consultant to the FBI.
