Items related to Haughton: Rhythm and Rag
Synopsis
This album was the first to be published in Alan Haughton's Rhythm and Rag series (see EPP84, and Rhythm and Rag for Trumpet and Clarinet). A superb collection of simple and tuneful pieces in various jazz styles, young pianists will love the bluesy 'Boogie on Down', the lovely ballad tune of 'Stephanie's Song' and the cheerful 'Rainy Day Rag'.

Review
Alan Haughton displays a natural melodic gift in the 16 short pieces in Rhythm and Rag, which form an excellent introduction to this style. Where this collection scores over others of a similar type is that each piece is not only intensely musical - some are real gems - but it also poses quite specific technical challenges. * Music Journal * As the title suggests, these pieces in jazz idiom are a splendid introduction for young pupils wishing to get away from the 'classics' for a while. Alan Haughton has taught many young children and his music has an immediate appeal with its catchy rhythms yet not too difficult technically. * Piano Journal * Musical quality: Outstanding. * Piano Quarterly *
