Original Red Hardcover. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. New Edition. 1990. Facsimile reprint of the 1806 edition with a new introction. John Millar (1735-1801), Professor of Civil Law at the University of Glasgow, is a good example of an author whose reputation flourished during his lifetime, and who thereafter virtually disappeared from the map of intellectual history. His biographer (1960) William C. Lehmann states that Millar was one distinctive figure [of the Scottish Enlightenment] who has suffered considerable neglect. 'The Origin of the Distinction of Ranks' was first published in 1771. The book is in excellent condition. There are no inscriptions and all contents are tight and clean.
