Health-conscious baby boomers looking for ways to stay fit and enjoy life will not only seek conventional health and wellness sources but complementary and alternative therapies that have become a significant part of the healthcare scene. In this slim guide, British physician Scott-Moncrieff (Homeopathy for Women, Firefly, 1999) combines both approaches to maintaining health in later life. An attractive book filled with color photos of handsome older adults enjoying their senior years, it covers such subjects as healthy eating (featuring an Optimum Diet plan), exercise, avoiding infections, stress reduction along with naturopathy, yoga, fasting, traditional Chinese remedies, aromatherapy, and meditation, accompanied by charts and bulleted lists. Although upbeat in tone, the text provides only bare-bones advice on healthy living; the Optimum Diet suggestions are healthy but uninspired. Some of the alternative therapies (gem therapy, geopathic therapy, feng shui) have limited applications to senior health. The scanty bibliography is all but useless, focusing almost entirely on British books. The book includes a shortlist of organizational addresses and a guide to choosing therapies.
