Synopsis

This book is a selective look at how Anglicans up to the twentieth century have attempted to bear faithful witness to the Christian Gospel in relation to the different challenges of time and place. Problems in the lives of churches and individual Christians can only be faced satisfactorily by going back to basic principles. Looking at how thinkers have expounded these principles over the centuries may be of some help in coping with current dilemmas. It looks at Anglicanism as a distinct theology, surveys the writings of selected theologians and movements, from Cranmer to some twentieth century doctrine reports. The book is clearly written with a minimum of technical theological jargon, though difficult concepts are not evaded.
