Reviews

Gr 3-6--Two brightly illustrated craft books. Introductory sections indicate required materials, both visually and in boxed text, and basic techniques. Individual projects are presented step-by-step, with an illustration included for each one. Specific materials needed for each craft are not presented all together in a list, i.e., children must read the directions to determine what they'll need, which is somewhat problematic. Also, safety warnings for adult supervision are only indicated in the introductions. Jewelry relies primarily on salt dough for creating pins, beads, and rings, though it does include some directions for using modeling clay and making paper beads and jewelry using natural materials, papier-mache, and felt. Cards explores various types of greeting cards including pop-ups, those with ``stained glass'' windows, and mobiles. Suggestions are given for different types of holiday cards as well. Patterns are not included, but young crafters should be able to interpret the instructions with some adult assistance. Fun additions.
