Reviews

Brazilian Senna, who died after crashing during a race last year at age 24, may well have been the best race-car driver of his time. In the 10 years before his death, he won the Formula One world championship three times and won 41 of 161 Grand Prix starts. Born into an enormously wealthy Sao Paulo family, he had his own motorized cars from age four, moved into kart racing as soon as his age permitted and served his apprenticeship from 1981 to 1984, starting in Formula Three racing. Rendall (The Chequered Flag) is gentle on the subject of Senna's personality, but the truth seems to be that he was more respected than loved, a win-at-any-cost sportsman. Lavishly illustrated, for fans.
