Synopsis

This book covers all the main topics about insects in eight chapters each broke up into several short informative sections. Each section consists of two pages full of color illustrations - both photographs and drawings, and several paragraphs of information. Each section is covered fairly briefly, this is an introductory text. The chapters cover: Bodywork, Homes, Lifestyles, On the move, Habitats, Lifecycles, Around people, and Record-breakers. In the Bodywork chapter each section covers an insect body part, as an example the eye section has a gigantic color illustration of a fly with its compound eyes. There are also two blown up images of a compound eye. There are also a very cool head on photograph of a damselfly and its compound eyes; and an African fly with its eyes on extended stalks. I think this book gives a very colorful and very well rounded (although necessarily brief) look at insects and their lives.
