Frances Kidder made history as the last woman hanged in public. Her execution was carried out by the bungling hangman William Calcraft, and therefore she did not die swiftly. On the 12th March, Frances had been convicted and sentenced to death at Maidtone Assizes for drowning her 11year-old step-daughter at New Romney. With Index.
