Visual C++ 6 Database Programming has been designed to provide basic tuition in developing data access applications. It's an introductory book that covers the main data access technologies currently in use, including ODBC, DAO, OLE DB, ADO and RDS. Each of these technologies are demonstrated using pratical coded examples in C++, using MFC to provide the user interface. There is also coverage of database theory and database design, and an introduction to Structured Query Language (SQL).

This book is aimed primarily at Visual C++ developers who have little or no experience in the field of databases, but now want to learn more about the various technologies offered by Microsoft. You should have a good working knowledge of C++, and while experience of MFC is helpful, it is not essential.
Wendy Sarrett graduated from University of Pennsylvania's Wharton undergrad in 1983. After finding out she preferred playing with the computers that did the financial calculations than doing them she went back to University of California at Irvine where she received a MS in Information and Computer Science in 1990. After working for four years at FileNet as a test engineer, system administrator and test tool developer she moved to Minneapolis for a year and a half and then back east to Virginia where she currently works as a software engineer for Careerbuilder Inc. Wendy is both a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer and a Chartered Financial Analyst. When she's not playing with the computer she's either working out, playing with her pets Marco, a talking parrot, Delenn, a Cockatiel, and PC, her long time feline buddy who has been with her 14 years and has traveled by plane more than some people. She also enjoys watching sports, talking political heads and of course B5 on TV.
