So, in one sense, these are invented flowers. They evoke, too, the traditional role of flowers, interpreted and idealized as geometric constructs, in the history of ornament. In this way, Snowdon's wild flowers are neither an accurate botanical record nor an environmentalist's plea for their preservation. Rather, they are explorations of form, line, color, and texture which move strongly in the direction of graphic textile design. They recall inevitably the work of people like William Morris.
