Grade 4-7-A collection of 13 short stories that won the Tim Winton Young Writers Award, an annual creative writing contest open to school-age children in Perth, Australia. The youngsters are good writers, but most of them don't yet have the skills necessary to capture and keep an audience. Some selections are peppered with uniquely Australian words and spellings (brekkie is breakfast and pressies are presents) that will add interest for some, but discourage and confuse others. Skip this one unless you have an exceptional need for fiction by young authors.
