From School Library Journal:
Grade 7 Up-Fifteen-year-old Finn, who ran away from home because he couldn't get along with his cold, demanding father, is living on the streets of Sydney, Australia. One morning, he sees a strange figure in a white plastic suit and gas mask pumping vile-smelling, caustic waste from a tank truck into the public drains. The tankerman turns out to be one of several aliens who have ray guns and are committed to tracking down and killing anyone who gets in their way. With his new mate, Jed, a man in his 20s, Finn tails the strangers to their hideout and discovers human captives being kept in underground cages by strange, insectlike beings who are draining the life force from their prisoners. When Jed gets trapped in the hideout, Finn must go for help, which comes in the form of the unlikely but gutsy pair of his mother and stepmother. The proper authorities show up in time for the climactic destruction of the aliens. There are a few holes in this story. At the end, readers still don't know where the tankermen came from or whether more of them might be on their way, and it is never explained how a younger version of Finn's dying grandmother appears in the background of a TV soap opera to give him a vital clue. However, Finn is a likable and believable character, and his adventure is entertaining, highly readable, and has a nice Australian flavor.
