Barry Cohen has observed Gough Whitlam closely for almost 30 years, for 21 of those years (1969-90) as a member of parliament, and for four as a Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Environment (in the first and second Hawke Governments). Barry has been a columnist for The Bulletin and now writes one for The Australian. He has written for the Sydney Morning Herald, Melbourne Herald and Time. He has also been an intermittent radio commentator.
