Synopsis
Marty Muskrat is a scaredy-rat. He's scared of riding bikes, he's scared of climbing trees, and he's scared of swinging on ropes. When Marty's class goes to Funland Park, his mom writes him a note excusing him from the rides, but his friends convince him to put aside his fears. With their help he discovers there are only three kinds of scared—going fast, getting bumped, and climbing to amazing heights—and he can conquer every one! Full of gentle humor and warmth, this is an exuberant story about learning to try new things.

About the Author
The late F. N. Monjo, author of The Drinking Gourd, wrote two other popular I Can Read Books: Indian Summer and The One Bad Thing About Father. He is an acclaimed author of more than 20 books for children, including The Sea Begger's Son, Letters to Horseface, The Porcelain Pagoda, and The House on Sink Alley. Justin Monjo was born in New York City and has written for television, film, and theater, including the award-winning adaptions of That Eye the Sky and Cloudstreet.
