The Highwayman represented the final evolution of Scammell's articulated Eight Wheeler' concept. It made its debut soon after the Leyland takeover in 1955 and bowed out in 1970, giving way to the forward control Handyman which was in production from 1960 to 1973. Power unit choice consisted of the Gardner 6LW and 6LX or the Leyland O.600 and 680.
