While the text on the back of these small board books seems somewhat lofty in its aspirations, these cleverly designed book and finger puppet combinations should keep busy minds--and hands--suitably entertained. Each book has an animal finger puppet attached to a thin ribbon that slips into the space created in the book's spine when the pages are opened. Each left-hand page depicts the puppet being manipulated according to a brief action rhyme; facing pages contain a wordless sequence in which the animal seems to frolic on its own, interacting with a child. (A definite plus is the depiction of multi-racial youngsters.) The grinning felt puppets are certainly appealing, but their actions are of necessity somewhat limited. However, these colorful and humorous packages will enable fertile imaginations to create their own finger fun. Ages 6 months-5 years.
