Synopsis

"America's Crossroads --Buffalo's Canal District/ Dante Place-The Making of a City". In the course of the research for that book, the authors discovered some legends ---one of which was the "battle of the bridge" (Buffalo prostitutes taking on NYC prostitutes at a Canal Street bridge when the latter supposedly came to move in on business for the Pan American Exposition.) After research in the deepest mold infested pits of rotting records in Buffalo City Hall and various records storage vaults, proved the story to be untrue, the 3 amigos-- Patton, Redding & Mike Vogel discovered, in the process, a goldmine of even more amazing history and thus set out to document the history of this 11 acre site---from the 1790's to the present. Had they not done so when they did in the 1980's----all this history would be forever lost, as even the miles of deteriorating microfilm they viewed and mountains of records in the basement of city hall---have been long since destroyed--- Ed Patton was able to get interviews with some people who were still alive during the days of dante place---- taking oral histories and personal remembrances of this most vivid period of our history. All but one of these people have long since died.
