It covers 1,135 top companies in the computer industry worldwide, including producers and distributors of hardware, software, communications, peripherals, and online services. After a section that briefly describes the growth of the computer industry, the work identifies 98 key people and lists publications, research organizations, and conferences; it also supplies rankings of computer companies by sales, employment, etc. The main section contains two-page profiles of 77 leading companies and one-page profiles of 173 smaller firms, followed by directory-style listings for 885 other computer-related businesses. While many of the companies are included in other Hoover's titles, the financial and other information furnished here has been updated to make it current as of May 1995. This readable, reliable, fact-filled, and affordable book concludes with two indexes and includes a Windows electronic version on disk; the work fills a need on the subject.
