Leander F. Pease, III Born and raised in the Providence, Rhode Island area, Pease enjoyed a country boyhood. His interest in the sciences and mathematics was born while attending Providence Classical High School. He earned himself a place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 17. In his senior year at MIT Pease enrolled in a metallurgy elective class and realized how important metallurgy was to manufacturing. He received a M.S. degree in metallurgy in 1962 and Sc.D the following year. Upon graduating he went to work for Wakefield and continued his education, studying part time at MIT's Sloan School and then transferring to Northeastern University where he earned an MBA degree. He left Wakefield in 1968 to join Kennecott Copper Corp's Ledgemont Lab as program manager in P/M. While there he met William Hopper and the idea of starting a P/M parts business was born. The two budding entrepreneurs teamed up with Raymond Collette to form Sinterbond Corp. located in Gloucester. MA. Pease and Collette severed ties with Sinterbond in 1973 and formed Powder-Tech Associates Inc. immediately thereafter. Pease has been very active in the P/M industry via technical publications and standards work. He was a director of APMI international and even passed the Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) Certification test in 1996! William G. West Bill West grew up in New Jersey but spent most of his adult life in Connecticut. He is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
After graduation, he was employed by Norwalk Powdered Metals as an engineer. He was chief engineer when he left in 1964 to start his own company, National Sintered Alloys Inc.. He has been active in the Powder Metal Industry for over 40 years. He has served the Powder Metal Parts Association as a Director and President. He has worked on many committees including the Industry Development Board. He was active in promoting material standards for the industry. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the APMI International. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1991.
